Mark 15:16-20

16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, "Hail, king of the Jews!" 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

-Mark 15:16-20

This is a scene where Jesus is being humiliated and tormented when he really didn't deserve it. It's such a cruel scene isn't it?

What did Jesus do to be mocked by all these people? Honestly, instead of Jesus in that position, it should be us sinful humans in his place for all the hate we contribute to this world. The world is just so unfair. Just like the people in Israel were unfair to Jesus back then, the world is still unfair to many people today. Why do we fall into the same mistakes and problems? Because we as humans are all full of sin. We are all born of sin and tempted by evil ever since Adam and Eve (Genesis 2). Even when we don't mean it, we make mistakes that go against God's commands. Sometimes we act very non Christian-like without even realizing. We grow up to learn hate because everyone else around us is influencing each other through the same human characteristics.

On Instagram, I saw this quote by Nelson Mandela that was shared and reposted by many people: "No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

As Christians and believers of God, we need to naturally show love. First, it comes from loving God and then we love our neighbors, our parents, our friends, our enemies regardless of their race, background, or religion. No matter how different someone is to you, you should always love and have compassion on another human. Unfortunately, our world is not very good at that. But, I have hope in us Christians. I have hope that we can learn to love like how God loves us and reflect positive change in this world.

No one should go through what Jesus went through. No one should be humiliated like that and go through such a wrongful death. We can stop all that crime and mockery by teaching other people to love and have a change in heart. I hope this is a time we reflect on our actions and think twice before saying something because the change starts with us. Let's turn hate into love.
